FUEL GOOD DAYS RETURNS IN SUPPORT OF NANAIMO & DISTRICT HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

NANAIMO, BC – September 12, 2023 – After the success of 2022’s event, Mid Island Co-op is again partnering with the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation (NDHF) for Fuel Good Day this September 19th,2023 across the Central Island.

Ten cents from every liter of gas pumped on Fuel Good Day will directly support enhancing critical care for residents north of the Malahat by tripling capacity for critical care.

“Mid Island Co-op is pleased to partner with the NDHF again in a committed effort to elevate tertiary care treatment for central Vancouver Island, shared Mid Island Co-op CEO Ian Anderson “We are very proud to have supported the first stage of the recently opened ICU at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and now we get to support our community further with Phase 2 of the High Acuity Unit. This year our Salt Spring and Harewood locations will be hosting a BBQ fundraiser and we will be collecting donations across all our sites. The Mid Island Co-op leadership team will also be on location at various gas bars to help wash windows, connect with the community, and raise awareness about Fuel Good Day as one of our most impactful campaigns of the year.”

This year, residents have even more opportunities to participate in Fuel Good Days and give where they live. From September 12th through September 19th Mid Island Co-op Liquor locations are donating $1.00 from every bottle of Route 19 wine and six-pack of My Island Beer to NDHF. Mid Island Co-op Liquor locations can be found here.

“We are honoured to be the recipient of Mid Island Co-op’s Fuel Good Day and it’s contributions will directly support state of the art medical equipment for the critical care spaces at NRGH serving over 450,000 Central Island Residents,” shared Barney Ellis-Perry, Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation CEO. “I personally will be out September 19th washing windows and meeting our amazing community to thank them for supporting our local health care community.”

Happy birthday Nanaimo Regional General Hospital!
“Born” on Jan 6, 1963, the hospital has been a fixture of health and wellness in our region for over 6 decades, serving over 440,000 island residents north of the Malahat. In lieu of gifts this 60th birthday, it’s asked that donations can be made to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation in support of the future High Acuity Unit in the new ICU. Giving Tuesday

By Celebrate!, Congratulations!, News, Thank You!

We are so excited to announce that with the help of our friends and neighbours, we raised $140,456 for the new Sentimag System at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on our first ever Giving Tuesday initiative!
An incredible group of community leaders, including our Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, the Nanaimo Foundation, the Tom Harris Community Foundation, the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival, and the Abreast of Life Dragon Boat Team united to make a difference for our hospital this holiday season! Together, they have made significant gifts toward the purchase of the Sentimag System that will support people experiencing breast cancer in our region.
We are so grateful for this amazing show of support. Thank you so much to everyone who has now made the purchase of this essential piece of cancer treatment equipment, as well as a year’s worth of operational costs, possible.

The Peddlin’ Prof peddles past his goal!

By Celebrate!, Congratulations!, News, Thank You!
We are so blown away and grateful to Dr. Trevor Cradduck, the Peddlin’ Prof, for his amazing bike ride fundraiser in support of the new Intensive Care Unit at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital! During August, Dr. Cradduck set himself a goal of riding 500 km and raising $2,000 for the hospital, and he exceeded both with 761 km ridden and $2,750 raised!

In addition to his fundraising for NRGH, Dr. Cradduck is a longtime volunteer of the Lifeline (the wearable call button for seniors when they need help, for example if they fall in their home). Dr. Cradduck worked in the Check-In Program, which is a scheduled check-in call service for Nanaimo seniors. He is a former Lifeline committee member and Past Editor of the program’s newsletter, “Seniors Connections” as well as a delivery driver for Lifeline unit install (and sometimes delivery rider if he took his bike). At 86 years young, Dr. Cradduck is an inspiration to us all to keep moving, and keep giving.

The Peddlin’ Prof Raises Funds for ICU

By Celebrate!, News, Thank You!
Dr. Trevor Cradduck is Professor Emeritus of Nuclear Medicine having been a Medical Physicist in Nuclear Medicine, and finished his career at Western University in London, Ontario. However, to us he’s known as the “Peddlin’ Prof.”
In 2016, Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto initiated the Great Cycle Challenge to Fight Kid’s Cancer. Cyclists set their own challenges in terms of distance to ride throughout the month and a goal of money to raise. Dr. Cradduck joined this venture in 2018 and has ridden each year, keeping himself fit and raising money for a good cause. He has since redirected his funding to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, and we couldn’t be more grateful! Funds raised will support the purchase of all the state-of-the-art critical care medical equipment in the new Intensive Care Unit at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
This year, at age 86, Dr. Cradduck has set his distance goal at 500 km to be ridden over the month of August. During his first five days of riding, he put an incredible 129 km under his wheels! He feels confident he will meet the target he set himself.
