Purple Hats Save Lives – Parksville-Qualicum Retired Teachers Association

By Celebrate!, News, Thank You!
Members of the Parksville-Qualicum Retired Teachers Association have knit hundreds of baby hats for the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital’s NICU and Maternity Departments since 2019. We want to thank to Suzanne Rush for dropping off close to 200 today!
Many of the hats are purple to remind everyone of the dangers of Shaken Baby Syndrome, which is a serious brain injury resulting from forcefully shaking an infant or toddler. To learn more about this, please visit https://bit.ly/3rqVtKK.

Thank you, Longwood Brewery!

By Celebrate!, News, Thank You!
Longwood Brewery partnered with Bayview Brewing and the Nanaimo Craft Beer Society to create the 7 Belles Saison, which they launched in honour of healthcare workers who have given us all so much during the pandemic. Because of the community’s support, $1,000 from the proceeds of that beer have now been donated to the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Longwood Brewery have been wonderful supporters of the hospital for the past three years. Thank you so much!

Hospital Employees Union Gives Back

By Celebrate!, News, Thank You!
Members of the Hospital Employees Union (HEU) love to give back by donating a portion of their union dues to NRGH. On April 5, a few members presented Child Life Specialist Sandra Hirota with a donation of $500 in support of children’s toys and specialty items for the Paediatric department. Brave children who undergo medical treatments have the opportunity to feel like a kid again by being given the gift of play during trying times in their lives.
We are deeply grateful to the HEU for their care and consideration.

March 30 is Doctors Day

By Kudos, News, Thank You!

Right now, doctors around the world are dedicating their lives to the health of those around them. They sacrifice their energy, time, and lives to treating the sick, comforting patient families, training their successors, and instrumentally creating a safer and more prosperous world. Our doctors at NRGH provide high quality care for anyone from central and north Vancouver Island who needs them, from mending broken bones to chemotherapy for cancer patients, from life support for premature babies to palliative care for the elderly. For all you do for us, we honour and thank you.

We Remember Brenda

By Memorial Tributes, News, Thank You!
Brenda Rositano worked for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation beginning in 2000 until she passed away in 2019. Today, four generations of Brenda’s family came to make a donation to the hospital in her memory. Her brother is visiting from Australia, and came in to enjoy a coffee at the beautiful Code Brew at NRGH, which was completely rebuilt last year. The opening was dedicated to Brenda’s memory.
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation is grateful to Brenda’s family for their ongoing support of the hospital, and honouring Brenda’s memory in such a special way.
