The Nanaimo Wave Babes’ Fight Breast Cancer for All of Us
The Nanaimo Wave Babes: Sue Flint, Pat Work, Kris King, Anita Sundberg, Vicky Scheltgem, Barb Parker, together with one of their sponsors Paul Shorting of Regional Recycling (missing: Woodgrove Centre and DBL Disposal Services) contribute $10,350 to Janice Perrino, CEO of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. DBL Disposal Services, Regional Recycling, and Woodgrove Centre, raised $10,350 for the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.
There is one clear focus for the Nanaimo Wave Babes Dragon Boat team, the survival of breast cancer patients. For more than a decade the team has paddled for both friendship and fundraising in an effort to provide progressive diagnostic equipment to the Medical Imaging Department in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH).
The team recently delivered an additional $10,350 to help purchase one of two new CT Scanners at NRGH. This brings their total contributions to more than $170,000 in the fight against breast cancer. The Wave Babes credit their many supporters including DBL Disposal Services, Regional Recycling, and Woodgrove Centre. The team fundraises by collecting recyclable bottles, scrap metal, and electronics at its “Think Pink” events three times a year; they also host an annual Plant Sale in the spring, and apply for community grants. Watch for Think Pink notices in the New Year.
