20 New Fetal Monitors Fully Funded for NRGH
Every Baby Deserves a Safe Start
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our community, the community has fully funded 20 new fetal monitors for the Perinatal Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
These new monitors will replace equipment that has been in use for approximately 18 years, helping healthcare teams provide safer, more reliable monitoring for mothers and babies throughout labour and delivery.
Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Leads the Way
The Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary has donated another $48,600 to support the purchase of two more fetal monitors for the Maternity Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Guided by compassion and a deep commitment to community, this donation brings their annual total for this equipment to more than $100,000 this year. We are deeply grateful for this incredible show of support for growing families across Central Vancouver Island!
This gift marks a powerful start to the campaign—and we hope it inspires others to join in.

Advanced Technology for Mothers and Babies
Every baby deserves to be safely monitored from the first moment.
The new Philips Avalon FM30 Fetal Monitors will provide healthcare teams with advanced technology designed to support safe, continuous care. They will:
- Allow wireless monitoring while mothers move around the unit or labour in water.
- Help distinguish between maternal and fetal heart rates, including during twin or triplet pregnancies.
- Integrate with hospital systems and electronic health records.
- Give physicians, midwives and off-site specialists real-time remote access to patient information.
- Move easily between patient rooms as needed.
This technology will also help eliminate interruptions caused by aging equipment failures and support faster consultations when patients may need to be transferred to a higher level of care.
