Thank you to the Curling Club House Band for their $600 donation! The funds were raised at a recent curling bonspiel they performed at. They generously donated their performance fee as well as collected contributions from attendees. The funds will support the campaign to build a new procedural suite for the Endoscopy Department.

Thank you to all our donors who made the purchase and installation of a washer and dryer in the NICU possible. Before the installation, baby clothes had to be taken to another department to be washed. Baby clothes are very delicate so the new W/D will help keep them in better condition and valuable time will be saved by being able to do the laundry right in the department.
Jesse’s Gift Foundation donated $7,330 which was raised through a raffle of WestJet tickets to purchase the appliances and other project costs were covered by the generosity of many other donors. Thank you to the NRGH Facilities Maintenance & Operations staff for installing the washer and dryer!

We are honoured to raise funds in support of the incredible work being done on a daily basis throughout NRGH and other care facilities so we love to share feedback from patients and their families about the great care they receive. Well done 4th Floor!
“Just taking a moment to give a big shout out to your nurses and staff at Nanaimo General. I was in there yesterday on the fourth floor and had wait in the hall for a few minutes while the nurse cared for my dad. There was a sweet elderly woman sitting in a wheelchair singing happy birthday over and over. Sometimes the staff sang along, sometimes she was solo but the nurses told me that she had caught wind of it being someone’s birthday on the floor and it was her way of hinting for cake. After a few choruses, one of the nurses passed me and she was speaking softly to herself how she was so busy and couldn’t really spare the time, but oh well.
A minute later she returned with cake and sat and fed it to the lovely singing patient. We have always received exemplary care at this hospital but I know others that have their issues with it however I have to applaud them for that single moment today. As busy as that young nurse was, she took a few moments to show kindness and consideration for that sweet old lady. Thank you to all the nurses and support staff for everything you do, it doesn’t go unnoticed!!!”

Thank you to the Nanaimo Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs for choosing the hospital for their recent Kin Kindness Day! Ten of their Kin members and their families provided patients, families and staff at NRGH with 285 hot beverages and paid for approximately 120 hospital patron’s parking for 2 hours! They also gave out Hospital Foundation teddy bears to children who were at the hospital for care that day. Such incredible and heartwarming generosity!
After serving NRGH well since 1985, the time has come to replace “Annie” – the CPR training mannequin used to train the life-saving technique. The new mannequin, yet to be named, was funded by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation.
The O.R. Department team members are excited about the new mannequin’s features which will provide more advanced training options. Some of the many benefits are:

Due to the support of generous donors, including a $1 million donation, the $1.8 million cardiac campaign goal has been reached months in advance! As a result, the Hospital Foundation immediately funded $500,000 of medical equipment which just arrived at NRGH.
Dr. Nataranjan, one of the cardiologists at NRGH, is pictured with one of the new echocardiography ultrasound units. At a cost of $138,000 each, these incredible machines have the most advanced software and imaging capabilities available. These units are true workhorses that can do all the different tests cardiac patients may need.
With cardiac ultrasound exams alone expected to exceed 10,000 in 2019, and all cardiac exams totaling over 40,000, these units are a much needed addition to the hospital.
The Foundation’s four elevator wraps recently installed at NRGH look amazing! The wraps celebrate the dedicated NRGH staff and volunteers and the incredible care they provide on a daily basis. They also highlight the vital medical equipment that donors help fund. Together we are helping deliver excellence in healthcare in our community. Thank you!

The students and families of Randerson Ridge School donated a whopping 440 teddy bears! Isabella, a student at Randerson, presented the idea to her school after she and her sisters donated bears to the Foundation. Her Teddy Bear Drive was very well received with PetSmart in Duncan being the biggest donor! Children receiving medical care at NRGH and VI SCAN will get much comfort from these cuddly toys.
