Donor Tour of the New Birthing Beds at NRGH
On March 11, a group of donors who played an important role in the success of Soirée by the Sea had the opportunity to witness the tangible impact of their generosity. Led by Trina Knight, Manager of Perinatal at NRGH, the donors toured the Perinatal Unit at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) to see firsthand the nine new birthing beds their contributions helped fund.
Trina expressed her excitement about the new beds, emphasizing their importance for both mothers and the medical team. She explained that some of the older beds had been held together with duct tape and required frequent repairs, making the arrival of the new ones a game-changer for comfort, safety, and efficiency in maternity care.
The donors were thrilled to see their contributions come to life in such a meaningful way, reinforcing the real difference that community giving makes in enhancing healthcare experiences. The new birthing beds were ordered just a week after Soirée by the Sea and arrived five months later, ensuring that expectant mothers at NRGH receive the best possible care.

A Look Back at Soirée by the Sea
Held in June on Saysutshun Island, Soirée by the Sea was a memorable seaside event that brought together over 100 guests in support of the maternity unit. With each birthing bed costing $20,000, the generosity of the attendees resulted in six beds being purchased outright and a total of over $200,000 raised, funding all nine beds.
