Renovating and re-purposing existing hospital spaces is a very complex process involving numerous internal departments and services. Extensive planning and coordination is critical to ensure there is minimal impact on patients and staff. The renovation of the Cardiac Department at NRGH, a Hospital Foundation funded project, is a prime example in progress. As the cardiac department has to continue to operate within the existing space, renovations must occur in a specific sequence and only in a few areas at a time. Here is a sneak peak at the work underway by the hospital’s skilled Facilities Maintenance and Operations team. Thank you to all who donated to make this vital project a reality! More updates will be shared over the coming months.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Nanaimo for their generous $5,000 donation! The funds will go towards the new surgical suite for the Endoscopy Department at NRGH. Once complete, wait times will be reduced for procedures such as colonoscopies, used to diagnose serious illnesses including colon cancer.

Thank you to CIBC for their generous $10,000 donation! The funds will be used towards the new surgical suite for the Endoscopy Department at NRGH!
Colonoscopies make up 80% of the procedures and can be life saving. They are used to diagnose and, in some cases, can prevent serious illnesses such as colon cancer. Once the new surgical suite is complete, capacity will increase up to 35%. Wait times will be greatly reduced for patients in central Vancouver Island.
