Update on PPE Donations for NRGH

By News

There has been a great response and profound goodwill in trying to source community supplies of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Thank you!

In order to focus everybody’s efforts, Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is asking the public to contact Bill Earthy at William.Earthy@viha.ca in Facilities, Maintenance & Operations at NRGH prior to making a donation. To manage email volume, please put “Community PPE” in the subject line. This is to try to avoid multiple non-coordinated efforts throughout the community and to minimize confusion. NRGH will then coordinate deliveries to the hospital on a controlled basis. Once confirmed, donations can be dropped off to: 3151 Barons Road, Nanaimo on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm only.

Items that are welcomed include:

  • N95 masks
  • Surgical masks
  • Procedure masks
  • Procedure masks with shields
  • Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Disposable Gowns
  • Hand santizer
  • Wipes

Currently, NRGH is not accepting homemade mask and cloth gowns.

Thank you for supporting your local hospital and the incredible staff who continue to deliver excellent patient care!

By Thank You!

Thank you to Woodgrove Centre for their generous donation of $5,000 worth of gift cards! The gift cards will be used to raise funds for medical equipment and patient comfort items.

“We have a commitment to investing in our community by supporting local initiatives, specifically those that focus on education and well-being of young people, health and safety, the environment, and social welfare. The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation covers many of those highlighted areas. Everyone in our community is affected by their work in some way, whether it’s from personal need at NRGH or seeing a friend or family member receive medical care. They’re working hard to raise the necessary funds to ensure that our community has access to proper care we all need.” Heather Fisk, Marketing Manager, Woodgrove Centre

Employees Continue Successful Fundraiser

By Thank You!

Thank you Vancouver Island Mack and Island Aggregates for their generous $3,820 donation! Staff raised $1,910 through their annual Christmas staff party and other activities and the company matched the funds raised. To date, they have donated over $13,000!

Part of the funds raised are through a staff draw. For a number of years, Island Aggregates employee Raymond Williams has made beautiful handmade items in wood for the draw.

“I enjoy creating with wood, so I am happy to make items that can be raffled at the company Christmas party. I made a project for one of my first Christmas parties with Vancouver Island Mack and Island Aggregates, and it was very well received. The company donated the money raised, and then some, to the Nanaimo Hospital [towards the children wards].

People began asking what I was making for next year, so I continued the tradition. I do not care for TV. I mill my own wood, and I enjoy working in my shop. I have made cedar chests, toy boxes, chairs, deacon benches, and park benches. The park bench proved extremely popular this year, we over exceeded in ticket sales which Richard Mayer and family matched. I do not know what I will make for this year’s party, but I will think of something, and it will raise even more money for a great cause. ” Raymond is in the below photo, second from the right

Santa Photos Popular Once Again!

By Thank You!

Thank you to Country Club Centre for their generous $4,621 donation! In 2017, Country Club Centre launched a Christmas campaign that put a new spin on the “Photo with Santa” that helps raise funds for local, not-for-profit organizations.

Ready Set Santa takes guests on a delightful journey through Santa’s Winter Garden, including photo opportunities with a 1930’s vintage sleigh, grazing reindeer and a six foot tall snowman complete with gently falling snow. Of course, children also spend some quality time with Santa along the way, discussing the important business of being a good person and Christmas list details. Guests took on the role of director and photographer for their family photos with their own photo devices, free of charge. Santa’s elves were also available on set to snap all your special moments on a DSLR camera and load them on to a keep sake USB for a charitable donation.

“Country Club Centre believes it is important to contribute and give back to our community. The Nanaimo Regional General Hospital affects everyone in the community at some point in their life and we think that is a very important reason to continue to support The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation during our annual Christmas campaign. We are thrilled to know that our donation enables NDHF the ability to purchase critical medical equipment right here in Nanaimo. ” Gina Marwick, Marketing Director

Variety Continues Support of Families in Need

By Thank You!

Thank you to the Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC for their recent commitment of $9,000 to support children and their families who must travel to Nanaimo to receive medical care at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. No family should ever face a financial burden so their child can get the medical care they need. Grants from Variety help lower income families cover travel costs so they can focus on supporting their child and not worrying about how to pay the bills.

The grants help cover the costs of accommodation, food, transportation and specialty items such as car seats for premature babies. Their generosity helps many families each year and, to date, Variety has donated over $750,000 to support better healthcare for children living in Central Vancouver Island! We are so very grateful.
