Cardiac Project Update

By News

Renovating and re-purposing existing hospital spaces is a very complex process involving numerous internal departments and services. Extensive planning and coordination is critical to ensure there is minimal impact on patients and staff. The renovation of the Cardiac Department at NRGH, a Hospital Foundation funded project, is a prime example in progress. As the cardiac department has to continue to operate within the existing space, renovations must occur in a specific sequence and only in a few areas at a time. Here is a sneak peak at the work underway by the hospital’s skilled Facilities Maintenance and Operations team. Thank you to all who donated to make this vital project a reality! More updates will be shared over the coming months.

$3.8 Million for Healthcare

By Thank You!

Due to the generosity of many donors, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation was able to commit to over $3.8 million in funding to NRGH and the other care facilities it supports in the last fiscal year! The donations help fund medical equipment, patient comfort items, staff education and large projects such as the cardiac expansion at NRGH and Oceanside.

Read about some of the highlights over the past year on our news feed.

Thank you also to Dr. Rudston-Brown who was our guest speaker at our recent donor event where the photo was taken. He spoke about the importance of access to colonoscopies, why they are integral to our long-term health and the impact the new procedural suite in the Endoscopy Department at NRGH will have once it is built. Read about the colonoscopy campaign here.

Cardiac Equipment Arrives at NRGH

By Medical Equipment, News

Due to the support of generous donors, including a $1 million donation, the $1.8 million cardiac campaign goal has been reached months in advance! As a result, the Hospital Foundation immediately funded $500,000 of medical equipment which just arrived at NRGH.

Dr. Nataranjan, one of the cardiologists at NRGH, is pictured with one of the new echocardiography ultrasound units. At a cost of $138,000 each, these incredible machines have the most advanced software and imaging capabilities available. These units are true workhorses that can do all the different tests cardiac patients may need.

With cardiac ultrasound exams alone expected to exceed 10,000 in 2019, and all cardiac exams totaling over 40,000, these units are a much needed addition to the hospital.

RBC – A Strong Legacy of Community Support

By Thank You!

Thank you to the RBC Foundation for the incredible $20,000 donation for cardiac equipment at NRGH and Oceanside Health Centre in Parksville! Once the project is complete, cardiac exam wait times will be reduced by as much as 50% and 95% of cardiac pre and post-surgical and procedural care will be able to be delivered in our community!

RBC Foundation, RBC and RBC Dominion Securities have a strong legacy of supporting the community and the local hospital. Collectively, they have donated over $400,000 over the years to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation in support of better healthcare in our community. Incredible!
