Are you looking for a way to make an impact on the health of your community into the future? For 48 years, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation has been helping donors leverage their personal philanthropy to make lasting impacts on the health of their community.
We are raising millions annually to support our region’s healthcare facilities, including Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Oceanside Health Centre, and three long-term care facilities, by leading major fundraising campaigns for critical medical equipment, new priority projects, and programs that provide the best and highest level of healthcare to the residents of Central Vancouver Island.
Tax effective giving turning inspiration into action
Legacy giving offers an opportunity for anyone to make a larger contribution than they normally would be able to while helping to minimize tax and make a true impact on the future of the community. The decision to create this type of gift – called a bequest – is a difficult one. There are many things to consider. Here are a few things to think about if you feel inspired to give in this way but have not yet taken the steps to create a gift.

By designating a gift of this kind through your will, in many cases you can also direct how the funds should be used. If you have a special interest in the service we provide or wish to impact a specific area of the hospital, the foundation can help you establish a gift that meets your wishes.
Every estate can benefit from tax savings
Gifts made through your estate are deemed to have been made in the year of death. Therefore, a charitable tax credit is received by your estate. This credit can be used to offset the taxes that your estate may have to pay. By giving a bequest, you are entitled to sizeable tax savings. It is comforting to know that not only will your gift benefit healthcare in your community but it will also help to reduce taxes.
