Variety BC Donates $45,000 towards Out-of-Town Families of Children Receiving Care at NRGH

Variety, the Children’s Charity is once again supporting families who must travel to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) in 2026. Through a generous $45,000 donation from their Variety Cares Fund, out-of-town families of children receiving care at our hospital will have access to essential travel assistance and supportive resources – helping ease financial stress so families can focus on what matters most: their child’s health and wellbeing.

Variety BC – the Children’s Charity of BC has been transforming the lives of children and youth with disabilities and complex health needs for nearly six decades. With the support of donors, Variety BC fills gaps in healthcare and social services by providing grants, equipment, therapies, and essential support that families often struggle to access through government programs alone.

One way Variety does this is through the Variety Cares Fund, which partners with hospitals, including Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, to provide short-term financial support to families who must travel for urgent medical care. This fund can help cover costs such as food, parking, accommodation, and other essential needs, allowing families to focus fully on their child’s health.

Since the program’s beginnings, Variety has been a valued partner in supporting health care access on Vancouver Island, helping families when they need it most.
