A Letter from Dr. Trevor Cradduck

Dear Friend,
After enjoying a long and rewarding career in medical imaging across Canada, I decided to move to Vancouver Island to retire. I chose Nanaimo for its affordability, beautiful weather, and access to a regional hospital with a variety of medical services.
And because of what happened to a close friend, I know we need a Senior Friendly Emergency Unit at our local hospital.
When my friend fainted, fell, and broke her pelvis, she waited days in the ER. Doctors had thought her heart was the only problem. She spent Christmas and New Year’s on a bed in the hallway, in pain, noise, and confusion. It was frightening and traumatic.
But a Senior Friendly Emergency Unit will have specialists trained to care for older patients. I believe my friend’s broken pelvis would have been properly diagnosed sooner. And her suffering dramatically reduced.
I want the best care for the people I know – and for you and everyone in our community. Please join me and donate to build and equip this urgently needed unit.
Seniors like my friend and me, seniors like your neighbours, and maybe those in your family – need a place to go in an emergency. A place where specialists understand older patients, ask the right questions, and provide safe, compassionate care.
Thankfully yours,
Dr. Trevor D. Cradduck
P.S. No senior should spend days in pain in a hallway. Your gift today will help build a Seniors Friendly Emergency Unit, complete with proper rooms, beds and equipment – so people like Giselle get the care they need, when they need it most.
