The Royal Canadian Legion’s Generous Support
Our local Royal Canadian Legion branches have long exemplified what it means to serve—with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Their enduring support for healthcare on Central Vancouver Island is a testament to the values they hold dear: community, responsibility, and well-being. This year, we are proud to recognize two remarkable gifts from Mt. Benson #256 and Seaview Centennial #257, each making a lasting impact on patient care in our region.
A Gift from Royal Canadian Legion Mt. Benson #256
For almost 30 years, the members of Royal Canadian Legion Mt. Benson #256 have been valued partners in enhancing healthcare in our community. This year, through their Poppy Fund, they gifted $5,000 toward the purchase of a second SPECT/CT scanner at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. This advanced imaging technology plays a crucial role in diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions, including cardiac and neurological disorders.
Their gift reflects a deep commitment to ensuring our region has timely access to high-quality care. On behalf of the patients, families, and care teams who will benefit—we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Mt. Benson #256.

This spring, we had the honour of attending the Royal Canadian Legion Seaview Centennial #257’s Honours & Awards Ceremony, where we were presented with a generous $10,000 donation from their Poppy Fund. Their thoughtful gift is being invested in the following ways: $5,000 toward urgently needed equipment at NRGH, $3,000 to support care and comfort at Dufferin Place, and $2,000 to enhance services in our Palliative Care Unit.
Since 1999, Seaview Centennial #257 has contributed more than $122,000 to local healthcare—an extraordinary legacy of compassion and community spirit. This year’s donation continues that legacy, touching the lives of patients of all ages.
Together, We Heal Stronger
These meaningful gifts from our local Royal Canadian Legion branches are about more than dollars—they’re about people helping people. Veterans, families, and volunteers coming together to uplift those in need. It’s in our nature to give, and it’s in their tradition to lead by example.
