NRGH Nurses Gain Expertise in Trauma Care

      Share this:

Earlier this month, a team of nurses from Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) attended the 3rd Annual Trauma Conference in Sooke, BC, thanks to generous donors to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. The conference, focused on trauma patient care, was invaluable as NRGH now has the capacity to stabilize and treat trauma patients onsite. Previously, these patients were transferred to Victoria or Vancouver. The availability of specialized local care means that family and friends will no longer will have to travel to see and help care for their loved ones, which supports better patient recovery outcomes.

The surgical nurses and other staff on floor 3 are becoming leaders in this new specialty. The conference covered airway management, brain injuries, concussion care, and spinal trauma. The knowledge gained is helping staff build expertise and will be shared widely across the unit.

The nurses extend a heartfelt thank you to the Foundation and its donors!
