Donor Dollars at Work: Supporting Pediatric Care at NRGH
At the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, we’re dedicated to ensuring our community receives the best possible care. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we’re proud to support the training and certification of Pediatric Registered Nurses at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) through the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Course.
The PALS program is a nationally recognized, accredited course designed for healthcare providers caring for children and youth in urgent and emergent situations. Offered through the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, it emphasizes essential skills like high-quality CPR, systematic assessment, and effective team communication during high-risk, high-pressure scenarios.
For Registered Nurses on NRGH’s Pediatric Inpatient Unit, this training is critical. These nurses care for infants, children, and youth at risk of sudden deterioration, respond to emergencies in the Emergency Department, and assist in resuscitation efforts. PALS equips them with the knowledge and hands-on experience they need to act swiftly and confidently in life-saving situations.

With donor support, the Foundation has enabled Pediatric Registered Nurses to not only become certified but also maintain their PALS certification, ensuring ongoing excellence in pediatric resuscitation and emergency care.
