ELDERCARE FOUNDATION MAKES LARGEST CAMPAIGN DONATION TO SUPPORT LONG TERM CARE UPGRADES ON VANCOUVER ISLAND

By September 26, 2024Media Release, News

NANAIMO, BC – September 23, 2024, Eldercare Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting seniors across Vancouver Island, has generously contributed over $46,500 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation (NDHF) in support of its Long-Term Care campaign, launched earlier this summer.

This transformative donation will directly fund essential improvements, including bus rentals for resident excursions and outdoor upgrades at Long-Term Care homes. As a result of this donation, Eagle Park will receive new patio furniture this month—just in time for fall outdoor gatherings. Dufferin Place has arranged autumn excursions for residents through a bus rental company, while Trillium Lodge is finalizing plans for an adaptive garden that will allow residents in wheelchairs to enjoy their own gardening areas.

“Eldercare Foundation’s donation has touched the hearts of many of our Long-Term Care providers,” said Barney Ellis-Perry, CEO of the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. “Seeing this level of support restores their faith that the work they do—creating a meaningful, enriching environment for those in care—is truly valued by the broader community.”
“Since 1982, Eldercare’s mission has been to enhance the quality of life for seniors in need,” said Tom Arnold, Executive Director of Eldercare Foundation. “We know that seniors in care need more than just medical support, they need experiences that connect them with happy memories, and restore a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives. That’s why we’re so excited to support this campaign to help Long-Term Care Centres in Nanaimo and Oceanside.”

In a letter of thanks to the Eldercare Foundation team Nicole Webber, Long-Term Care Manager at Trillium Lodge and Oceanside Hospice shared, “With your generous donation gardening will be a reality for the people in care at Trillium Lodge. It is my hope that with adaptive gardens for our people in care to work in we will see an improvement to quality of life, an enhanced sense of self, and an improvement in mobility for our seniors. All the while promoting an active lifestyle in Long-Term Care.”
