Our goal at Code Brew is to raise $100,000 for the new ICU. With your purchase, we are one step closer. Thank You.
The Code Brew Café in the lobby at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is owned and operated by the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation, with proceeds directed to the purchase of medical equipment at NRGH.
Code Brew serves a variety of freshly baked goodies, sandwiches, soups, and salads, and freshly brews 100% organic, free-trade Spirit Bear coffee and espresso for lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and other specialty drinks.
Volunteers assist staff during the busy times of the day and are a valuable part of the customer experience!

Raising Funds to for the new ICU
This year, funds raised will support the new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at NRGH. Our ICU is the oldest in British Columbia and the busiest on Vancouver Island. NRGH is the only hospital in our region able to handle major traumas and life threatening illnesses. When you need this level of care, it is critical the ICU has the latest medical equipment in a well-designed space. The new ICU will provide our exceptional medical team with the equipment and resources they need to provide even better care for our growing community.

Volunteer
Our volunteer barista shifts are 2 to 3 hours a week with full training provided. Volunteers at Code Brew learn new skills, meet new people, and help raise funds to buy medical equipment.
“Volunteering at Code Brew has taught me many things, and one of the most valuable lessons I have received is that volunteering isn’t always about the hours, but it’s about the experience. Every time I show up for my shift I get to learn something new, and I get to meet all sorts of wonderful people! By simply making a customer coffee or remember a regular’s order, brings smiles to people’s faces, especially mine. I’m always left with a warm and happy feeling at the end of my shift, realizing that because I volunteer I made someone smile. Volunteering at Code Brew and working with the Brew family is such a special opportunity that I will always be thankful for. “

Latest News
The Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation is proud to announce that the brand new Code Brew café as part of the lobby renovations at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is now open. The new café will provide patients, visitors and staff with a wider selection of food and beverage options in an open, modern space.
The Tree of Life donor wall, which was located in the lobby, has been retired after 30 years due to the renovations and to meet hospital health and safety guidelines. A new donor recognition wall was installed in the NRGH lobby last year to replace the Tree of Life. The new donor wall celebrates donors who give $1,000 or more annually and are recognized for 10 years.
“We are grateful for the support we receive from our donors,” said Janice Perrino, CEO of the Hospital Foundation. “Their generosity helps the Hospital Foundation fund essential medical equipment and the donor recognition wall is just one of the ways we thank them.”
The Hospital Foundation is saving all donor plaques from the Tree of Life. Donors are welcome to take them home and can contact the Hospital Foundation at NDHF@islandhealth.ca or 250-755-7690 to arrange.
