Having a family doctor is critical to good health.

Your gift today will help ensure everyone living on Central Vancouver Island has access to a family doctor and improved healthcare.

Meet Dr. Diana Ruffell (l), and Dr. Shirin Madjzoub (r), two General Practitioners new to Nanaimo!

Having a family doctor is critical to good health.

Your gift today will help ensure everyone living on Central Vancouver Island has access to a family doctor and improved healthcare.

Right now, there are thousands of people in the Central Island area who can’t find a family doctor.

You probably know someone affected by this shortage – it could be a friend, a family member, or even yourself.

Every day, more people need access to family doctors as our community grows. Your support today will help us attract and retain more doctors in our region, ensuring that everyone gets the healthcare they deserve.

Will you help us?

Why Your Help Matters

The doctor shortage is creating longer wait times at walk-in clinics and emergency rooms. Without regular care from a family doctor, treatable conditions can become chronic, leading to more severe health problems.
Our campaign is dedicated to bringing new doctors to the region and keeping them here long-term.

How Your Donation Will Make a Difference

How the Campaign Works:

We’ll attract new family doctors and help them set up clinics with your generous
donation, because we will fund the following:

  • Licensing/certification fees of $4,000 per doctor.
  • Relocation costs of $4,000 per doctor.
  • Retention bursaries – to be used for the latest equipment of $2,000 per doctor.
  • Forgivable loans for new clinic equipment – up to $30,000 per clinic.
  • Contributions of $3,000 for exam fees and licensing for newly-qualified family doctors who commit to provide locum support for local clinics.

Right now, there are doctors who are seriously considering moving to Nanaimo.

Four are expected to be practicing here within the next nine months! This funding will help each one relocate their practice, and their family, helping ensure they stay in the region for years to come.

SUCCESS STORIES

Thanks to donor support, and our partnership with the Nanaimo Division of Family Practice, we’ve already helped five new physicians establish their practices in Nanaimo. Here’s how your donations are changing lives!

Dr. Diana Ruffell

Originally from Belarus, Diana moved to Nanaimo for her family medicine training, and decided to stay. Our recruitment and retention campaign made it possible for her to open her own practice, and make the commitment to remain in the community.

Dr. Shirin Madjzoub

With a background working as a physician in the U.S., U.K., and South Africa, Shirin chose Nanaimo as her home. With help from our campaign, she’s now practicing here, seeing patients every day, and making a long-term impact on the community.
