RBC Supports New Surgical Suite

By Thank You!

Thank you to RBC for their generous $1,000 donation! The funds will support our campaign to build a new surgical suite for the Endoscopy Department at NRGH.

Approximately 2,500 patients are waiting for a colonoscopy at NRGH. Another 1,000 are waiting for other endoscopic procedures. Once the new surgical suite is complete, capacity will increase up to 35% greatly reducing wait times for patients in central Vancouver Island.

Reduced wait times are critical as colonoscopies make up 80% of the procedures and can be life saving. They are used to diagnose and, in some cases, can prevent serious illnesses such as colon cancer.

Donation Helps Patients Breathe Easier

By Thank You!

Thank you to TB Vets for their generous donation of $21,868 for a V60 BiPAP Device! The device helps patients suffering from COPD, congestive heart failure and other conditions that lead to acute respiratory insufficiency. The machine provides breathing support that synchronizes with the patient’s effort to enhance respiratory effectiveness, decreases breathing effort and lessens the feeling of breathlessness. We are very thankful to all the TB Vets staff and Board of Directors for their generous donation and thoughtful support for patients at NRGH.

Baby Sim

By News, Thank You!

There are incredible teaching tools available to hospitals and Sim Baby is one of them! This advanced simulator is incredible – different scenarios can be programmed via laptop to simulate real-life health issues and the baby reacts accordingly. From variable heart rates and stomach distention to limb movement and vocalizations, the medical staff training on the Sim Baby are able to practice complicated scenarios with realistic feedback so they can provide even better care for the littlest of our patients.

Due to the generosity of a donor, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation was able to fund the Baby Sim for the Paediatric Department. The department hosted a “baby shower” complete with cake to celebrate the addition of this state of the art teaching device and to thank the donor!

Sim Baby

There are very advanced teaching tools available for medical professionals to ensure they can provide the best care possible to patients of all ages. This Sim Baby is just one example. It is so advanced, they can program different scenarios via a laptp that enable nurses and doctors to practice advanced techniques and the "baby" will react to the treatment they are giving it. From variable heart rates, change in skin colour, vocalizations, limb movement, stomach distention and so much more, Sim Baby is incredible. Due to the generousity of a donor, the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation was able to fund the Sim Baby!

Golf for Life Raises over $94,000!

By Thank You!

The 26th annual Golf for Life tournament raised over $94,000 due to the generous support of our sponsors, donors, golfers and volunteers! Presented by Coastal Community private Wealth Group and hosted by Fairwinds Golf Club, this year’s tournament saw a return to beautiful weather for the 136 golfers who participated.

The greens were in fantastic condition and everyone had fun trying to get the best score and attempt a hole in one for great prizes including cash, a new car, a trip and golf for a year!

Last year’s team remained undefeated this year – perhaps in 2020 will see new tournament champions?!

All the funds raised are supporting our campaign to build a new surgical suite for the Endoscopy Department at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. For details on this vital project, click here.

Below are a few photos from the day. Click here to see all the tournament photos. Visit our event webpage to see all our fantastic sponsors.
